Terms of use & privacy
Last updated 28 October 2026
1. The software
Notyrus (the website and app at notyrus.com) is © 2026 Notyrus. All rights reserved.
You may use Notyrus to read, annotate and keep your own documents. You may not copy, modify, translate, reverse-engineer, decompile, redistribute, resell, rent, frame or embed it in another site, or use its code, design or icons to build another product, except where the law expressly allows it.
Notyrus includes open-source components that remain under their own licences; they are listed on the Credits & licences page. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences.
2. Your documents and notes
Your books, notes, highlights, drawings, pictures and recordings stay where you choose to keep them:
- With Google: in your own Google Drive. Notyrus reads and writes them directly from your browser.
- Without an account: in your browser's storage on that device.
They are never sent to or stored on Notyrus servers. You own your content and are responsible for it, including having the right to the documents you open.
3. Privacy
Notyrus keeps as little as it can: never your documents or notes, only what is listed here.
- Google Drive access covers only the files Notyrus creates (kept in a "Notyrus" folder in your Drive) and the files you choose yourself with Google's file chooser. Notyrus cannot see anything else in your Drive. It uses this access only to list, open and save the books and notes you work with in Notyrus. Your files go directly between your browser and Google and never pass through or stay on Notyrus servers. Notyrus does not share, sell or transfer Google user data, and does not use it for advertising or to train any model. Notyrus's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- If you sign in with Google, Notyrus keeps: your email address; an anonymous code for your Google account (not your name); the days you used Notyrus; whether you asked for emails about new features; and an encrypted Google sign-in token. The token lets you sign in on another device or in the Notyrus app without approving Notyrus again, and it reaches only the files described above. Your email is used only to run Notyrus: to contact you about your account or important changes and, only if you said yes, to tell you about new features. It is never sold or shared, and never used for advertising.
- Staying signed in: your browser also keeps the encrypted sign-in in a secure cookie that your browser's scripts cannot read. When the one-hour Google access runs out, Notyrus's sign-in service uses it to ask Google for a fresh one. Signing out signs that device out, as in other apps: the sign-in Notyrus keeps for your account stays, so you can sign in again with one tap. To end Notyrus's access, choose Account → Delete my data, or remove Notyrus in your Google Account (Security → Third-party apps & services).
- Deleting your data: in Notyrus, choose Account → Delete my data. Notyrus then forgets your email, your choices and your sign-in at once, and Google forgets Notyrus's access. Your books and notes stay in your Google Drive. You can also remove Notyrus's access at any time from your Google Account (Security → Third-party apps & services).
- Counting use: to know how many people use Notyrus and on what, each device sends once a day a random code it made for itself and the broad kind of device and browser it is (for example iPad and Safari, or an Android phone and the Notyrus app). It is kept scrambled, only to count devices per day, and deleted after about 13 months. No device model, location or IP address is kept. Notyrus has no ads, no third-party trackers, and keeps no record of what you read or write.
- Where it is kept: with Cloudflare, which hosts Notyrus.
- The microphone is used only while you record a voice note.
- Settings such as your last page or chosen tools are kept in your browser.
- The site is served by Cloudflare, which may keep standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect it.
4. No warranty
Notyrus is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. Keep your own backups of important documents and notes. To the extent the law allows, Notyrus is not liable for any loss of data or other damages arising from its use.
5. Changes
These terms may be updated; the date above shows the latest version. Using Notyrus after a change means you accept the updated terms.
